May you have a Happy and Peaceful Eikas this month! My latest blogs:
A big thank you to those who have supported me on Patreon and Substack over the years. There have been some changes to how Patreon subscribers are billed. My understanding is that this has to do with Apple wanting to force the Patreon platform to bill its users through the Apple platform for apps, and to extract more revenue this way. If you’d like to support my work outside of the Patreon app, feel free to subscribe to me on Substack. I’ve also used Medium, but I do not see much reason to use it frequently except for the one benefit that it offers to read essays out loud to readers.
Due to Twitter’s extremist alt-right algorithm, in recent months people have been migrating to Bluesky, and I decided to give it a try and SoFE now has a Bluesky account. I’m open to feedback on what platforms are best to use. For now, Substack will likely be my main platform. Other literary updates:
- Should You Withdraw from Politics? Katharina Volk on Roman Epicureanism was received critically by some on our forum. Some argued that they dehumanized the Epicurean view. I thought this was simply another case of people discussing the philosophy without having a commitment to practice it.
- Unpacking the modern science of happiness
- Epicurean polytheism
The holiday season is approaching. If you’re looking for ways to support my work and propagate Epicurean philosophy, consider gifting some of my books:
- Tending the Epicurean Garden
- Epitome: Epicurean Writings
- A Few Days in Athens: The Friends of Epicurus Edition
Our friend Nathan has spent many hours updating his page Twentiers.com. Like me, he is a volunteer who has chosen to propagate philosophy, and he now has a Patreon account by which you may support his work. His latest compilation of content is fragments from Epicurus’ 37 books On Nature. He also has hard-to-find passages from Philodemus’ scroll On Piety and many other sources.
